AFFORDABLE HOUSING

We seek to provide affordable housing options. Many senior citizens become homeless because of specific circumstances, such as illness or disability, divorce, or loss of primary income-earning loved ones. Many seniors live on a fixed income and at least half of their budget is spent on housing. As more Americans age and become senior citizens, the need for more affordable housing properties will have to increase respectively.

Building tiny houses is a quicker, less expensive way to meet the demand and supply immediate, more affordable, short-term housing or transitional housing for seniors in need. Unlike shelters or tents, these houses allow residents to come inside from the elements, lock their doors for safety, and maintain their own living spaces.

INFORM & RECONNECT

We seek to inform and connect those we serve. According to the National Council on Aging, “Over 25 million Americans aged 60+ are economically insecure—living at or below 250% of the federal poverty level (FPL). The FPL is $12,060 per year for a single person (2017). These older adults struggle with rising housing and health care bills, inadequate nutrition, lack of access to transportation, diminished savings, and job loss.”

Many seniors are unaware that they qualify for programs to help them with specific circumstances, such as nutrition services, disease prevention and health promotion, and caregiving support. We help community residents with disabilities or limited means enroll in benefits programs for which they are eligible, so they can remain healthy, secure, and independent. We share resources and strategies for benefits outreach and enrollment.

LONG-TERM SOLUTIONS

We seek to offer short-term and long-term solutions for meeting basic needs. With funding becoming scarce and poverty among seniors growing, collaboration and effective use of resources are more critical than ever. We give residents a chance to rebuild a support system. With the help of our community partners and volunteers, we focus efforts on the unique needs for our residents to regain dignity, self-respect, independence and a sense of well-being. Where appropropriate, we look for opportunities for residents to earn a living and become productive citizens and contributors to the community.

We seek to expand services and improve the quality of life for homeless seniors by offering solutions for stability and sustaining life in their homes. Residents should be able to age safely with dignity, choice, and independence.

INSPIRE HOPE & GROWTH

We seek to inspire hope and encourage growth. We would like to help those we serve to meet their own needs and become self-sustaining, productive members of the community.
